The Audi R8 E-Tron Is The Silent Ghost Of The Nürburgring

No revving engine. No cracking exhaust noise. No flames. Just tire noise and displaced wind. This is what you get when you watch the electric Audi R8 E-Tron lap the Nürburgring. It’s a silent ghost that haunts the Green Hell.

It’s pretty clear from this video that the car shown here is some kind of development mule for the 2016 R8 E-Tron, a 456 horsepower electric beast. It still has the body from the outgoing R8. But unlike the old attempts at an R8 E-Tron, Audi says they’re actually going to build and sell this one.

Kind of eerie to watch, no? This may be the quiet future of racing and sports cars. Not sure how I feel about that.
