The Alfa Romeo 33 takes to the German skies

The sound of its mid-mounted 2.5-liter V8 at 9,600 rpm may be lost, but the Tipo 33/2 is brutal and beautiful even in black and white, frozen mid-air. Clearly from the stone age of aerodynamics, the car was assigned to Mario Casoni, Nino Vaccarella, and Iganzio Giunti for the 1968 Nürburgring 1000 Km, but it was withdrawn before the race. Giunti and Vaccarella drove two other 33/2’s to 5th and 10th place, respectively, Giunti taking a class win.
