I look around, I see lots of Gran Coupes these days. 4-Series. 6-Series. Heck, there's probably more in the pipeline. But which one is the baddest Gran Coupe of all? The Alpina xDrive B6 Gran Coupe, that's what. And it's here in the flesh at the New York Auto Show.

Sure, the name is a mouthful, like a lot of BMWs these days. But you also get a lot of power and a lot of speed to go with that big name — and dare I say a lot of style, too. The 6-Series Gran Coupe is in my humble opinion one of the better looking Bimmers these days, a low, bold and aggressive machine.

In Alpina guise the car puts out 540 horsepower from its 4.4-liter biturbo V8 engine. Power goes to all four wheels, hence the xDrive handle, and zero to 60 mph arrives in just 3.7 seconds. It also has a 198 mph top speed, but purists will balk at the lack of a manual gearbox.

BMW said today that the Alpina B6 Gran Coupe will be a special order, limited edition vehicle, so snatch one up soon if it piques your fancy.
