The 2020 Subaru Outback will be out exactly one week from today, the car’s sixth generation, and, quite possibly, the one that will make the Outback cool again. (Actually that’s doubtful, but I retain hope.) Today, Subaru gave us a decent look at slice of it, if not the whole thing, set in its natural state, off-roading in the mountains, a thing all Outback owners do.
The new Outback will be based on the Legacy’s platform, but we don’t know much about it beyond that, including what kind of motor will be under the hood. I would think some kind of four-cylinder situation, like the 2.4-liter, turbocharged, 260 horsepower four cylinder in the Ascent.
For styling, it will probably look a lot like the Legacy, given that it’s on its platform, but you can expect that with styling, interior, powertrain, and everything else, Subaru won’t slouch much when it comes to its bread-and-butter, in part because they know they have to get it right, or semi-right, at least. A bad Outback would be very bad for Subaru, indeed.
