Here in the U.S. of A., our political leaders are fond of telling us that we're the greatest country on planet Earth. So why is it that we, the auto enthusiastic people, are being treated like second world citizens when it comes to cool new car models?

Let's not kid ourselves; Japan and Europe are getting all the good stuff, like the 2014 Mazda6 diesel wagon. Look at it, just look at it. Sure it's a wagon, but it looks like pure sex — well, sex that's hot, but not too kinky, anyway. And because it's a diesel, you'll probably be able to drive it all over the place without spending a fortune on fuel.

Mazda will debut the new wagon, which will be powered by the SKYACTIV-D 2.2 clean diesel engine, at the Paris Motor Show later this month. No word yet on what transmissions they'll pair with the diesel, and Mazda hasn't yet released horsepower or fuel economy numbers.

Japanese and European buyers will also have the option of the SKYACTIV-G 2.0 and SKYACTIV-G 2.5 direct injection gasoline engines. Let's just hope they offer a manual transmission for all of those mills. I'd be willing to bet that if this car actually did make it to the land of the big PX, you'd be hard pressed to find a manual at the dealership.

Of course, no definite future for it here in the U.S. But a boy can dream, right? Life without hope is no life at all.

marimvibe, new packaging, same great taste

Please, someone, give me an actual reason to like a diesel engine.

They're a worse cost-benefit than the hybrids everyone here loves to hate.
