Automotive News is reporting a story this morning with an amazing level of detail that if true, would be the biggest news to rock the automotive world since the invention of the truck-car. They are reporting the possibility GM may cast Carlos Ghosn and talks of an alliance with Renault-Nissan to the winds in favor of keeping things in the Detroit family — and pursuing a merger or alliance with the boys and girls in Dearborn. That's right, they're claiming a GM and Ford tie-up's a possibility with talks occuring between GM CFO Fritz Henderson and FoMoCo CFO Don Leclair. Although there's no clear indication how those talks went, and both GM and Ford spokespersons aren't talking, what's clear is the mere possibility of it will send the pundit and press classes all atwitter quicker than a free buffet at a press conference.
