Ford announced yesterday that Dearborn intends to boost SUV production to support surging demand. Convince them to downsize? Nah, just feed their addiction to landbarges they don't need. Thank you, short-sighted American consumers, for your hard-earned monies. [Motor Trend]
DISCUSSION
Blame the consumers all you want.
But don't blame Ford for providing customers what they want; it was good business sense in the original SUV boom, and as long as customers are still demanding them, it's good business sense now.
The problem the first time around wasn't that Ford and GM were building so many SUVs, it was that they let everything else stagnate ad when demand shifted as it often does, they were caught with their pants down and didn't have anything good to offer. As long as they don't make the smae mistake twice, I see no problem with them or GM building more SUVs.
