Catalog is an experiment from the biz side of Jalopnik. (So to be clear, this post is not editorial). Now and then, we'll deliver content about products you can buy... or at least dream of buying. Today's contributor is Bureau of Trade, a digital authority in acquiring analog cultural objects.
Blue ribbons, red asphalt. Steve Prefontaine was arguably the greatest distance runner in U.S. history. He once held all seven speed records from the 2,000 meters to the 10,000 meters (this was before the discovery of Kenya, in 1979).
And he liked a fast car: He drove an orange 1973 MGB roadster. On May 30, 1975, while training for his second Olympics, the 24-year-old got behind the wheel after getting drunk at a party in Eugene, Oregon, and unfortunately smashed the sports car into a rock wall.
Celebrate the short life of an iconic athlete who crossed that finish line up in Olympic heaven (they have a special section for people who actually accomplished something) by investing in an MGB. Fortunately, we've found just the car, available for a mere $9,500 to the fastest clicker.
