ABC News affiliate, KABC, is reporting on a deadly accident that occurred last night involving one Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano (actually it's a 360, but whatevs). The Ferrari was ripped in half. Ouch. Update
You can view the video feed on KABC's website, HERE.
Was he trying his best to one-up Stefan Eriksson? According to the OC Register, a red 1977 Porsche was witnessed leaving the scene and an eyewitness claimed that the two vehicles were racing. The Ferrari 360 ran off of the road and hit a lamp post, severing the car in two, ejecting the female passenger and unfortunately killing the driver.
The driver of the Porsche was witnessed fleeing the scene with his female passenger, but they were later found by police walking away from the now parked Porsche. Its driver, Jeffrey Davide Kirby, is now in police custody in lieu of $1 million bail on a single count of gross vehicular manslaughter. His passenger was released without incident.
This brings us to the real point of covering this story; please, please, please, just because you have a fast car it doesn't mean that you have to speed on the streets. Whether you think you're a great driver or not, take this as an example of how things can go terribly wrong in the blink of an eye. Save the 360's.
Update: According to TMZ, the driver of the Ferrari was Charles Lewis Jr. — aka "Mask", the owner of the TapouT MMA clothing line. TMZ has a statement from Lewis' representative which you can read HERE. (Thanks, Josef!)
