A Champ Car affiliate is buying the Long Beach Grand Prix for $15 million, continuing a two-decade relationship with the league and, in effect, blocking the Indy Racing League from taking over the race — as may had expected. The move also ended speculation over whether IRL, Formula One (or even Nascar) could do a better job attracting a broader spectatorship, which has reportedly declined by around 25% in recent seasons. Long Beach became a stop on the F1 circuit in 1976, and signed on with Champ Car (formerly, CART) in 1984.
