Police Apprehend Big Rig Thief And His Dog After Long Chase And Standoff

Update 12:09 p.m. local: CBS reports that the chase began at around 11:00 a.m. local time. At least three tires are blown, including both left tires on the truck’s drive axle.

Update 12:14 p.m. local: Police don’t know what the motivation for theft or escape is.

Update 12:14 p.m. local: Police have blocked off most intersections ahead of the truck.

Update: 12:16 p.m. local: The truck has stopped after being routed to the end of a dead-end road outside Greenville, Texas.

Update: 12:21 p.m. local: Cops have surrounded the static semi-truck. The driver hasn’t made any movements inside the cab. Highway I-30 has been shut down on the eastbound side.

Update: 12:24 p.m. local: Snipers are in position, the semi-truck is completely surrounded by law enforcement.

Update: 1:11 p.m. local: Police have pulled an MRAP armored vehicle alongside the truck. Also, there’s a dog in the cab!

Update: 1:24 p.m. local: Police fired shots that appear to be less-lethal “knockout gas” and apprehended the suspect without killing him. The dog is safe.
