Happy Wednesday, we’ve finally reached the middle of the longest week of all time. You’ve earned yourself an extra coffee this morning, nice job. While having two coffees instead of one, you might want to have a listen to two songs instead of one. That’s right, today we’re talking mashups on Traffic Jams.

There are some great mashups out there that combine two songs that might not sound like an ideal fit but that work together perfectly. Combinations of “9 to 5” mixed up with “Fix Up, Look Sharp” by Dizzee Rascal, and a mash up between Caravan Palace and Eminem are both great, and who can forget mega-mashup Pop Culture by DJ star Madeon. They’re all great.

I’m a big fan of a good mashup, so am obviously a big fan of Danger Mouse’s attempt to mash up two entire albums back in the early 2000s.

If you’ve ever wondered what it sounds like to combine “The Black Album” by Jay-Z and “The White Album” by The Beatles, then “The Grey Album” is just that. It smashes together a track from each album to create a weird blend of Beatles beats with Jay-Z’s lyrics, and it’s quite something to behold.

Across the album, “99 Problems” is smashed together with “Helter Skelter,” “Dirt off Your Shoulder” blends with “Julia,” and “Encore” is mixed together with “Glass Onion” and “Savoy Truffle.” My favorite track on this weird album is “What More Can I Say,” which has been mashed up with “While My Guitar Gently Weeps.” The two tracks are the best on each of their respective albums and the most seamless mix of the lot.
