American V8s are pretty awesome. They've been the muscles of U.S. car culture since Bonnie and Clyde first floored their Ford Model B. They're the ultimate answer in the eyes of the costumers when it comes to the question of performance.

They also make an unmistakable noise, and have so much torque that nothing comes even close to them in the game of tire destruction. V8s are dominant, and that's just how we like them.

While some of the great foreign V8s are in fact based on good old American designs (ahem, Rover), European or Japanese engineers could certainly teach a few things about advanced V8s to their respected colleagues as well.
