Carnegie Mellon University's Red Team Too, an expansion squad of the group considered last year's favorites in the DARPA Challenge, have snagged the #1 qualifying slot in this year's race, despite managing to flip their robo-Hummer (didn't we see that in the back of an issue of High Society once?) earlier in the trials. In a one-three punch, Sandstorm, CMU's other Hummer (and the closest thing to a victor last year), will start third. The creepy, headless OshKosh Terramax was the slowest qualifier. Now let's see if any of these lumbering beasts can get farther than 7 1/2 miles this time around.
