German Car Fans pointed us toward Porsche's "transparent" Cayenne, a lab on wheels the company will use to demonstrate and refine its internal electronics systems. The company says engineers' use of the naked Cayenne can speed development of new models' byzantine on-board control systems by roughly a year — a big savings in an era of accelerating product cycles. By uncovering all that technical vermicelli, researchers can alter systems on the fly, and road test simultaneously. We wonder if Porsche might also discover an untapped market for these vehicles among the hacker nerd cyberpunk unabomber do-it-yourself community.
