Pope Francis is visiting Ecuador, Bolivia and Paraguay right now where he hopes to shine a little light on wage disparity and environmental issues. He’s also solidifying his “Cool Pope” status by catching rays in a Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Popemobile.

His Holiness tooled through the city of Quito, Ecuador on July 5th in his Wrangler surrounded by the holy entourage and thousands of fans. Don’t worry that smattering of red on the hood is just some kind of flower arrangement, not a bloody disembodied head as you may have thought.

Pope Francis really seems to like shrugging off the pomp and circumstance of his position, there’s really not much armor between him and his people is there? He also doesn’t seem too brand-loyal when it comes to his method of conveyance... you might remember we saw him in Hyundai’s spiritual successor to the Nissan Murano CrossCabriolet just about a month ago.

Whatever he’s doing he’s definitely popular. The entire city of Quito looks like a packed house here!

Haven’t heard back yet regarding whether the Papal Wrangler was provided as some kind of official endorsement from FCA, or if it’s just whatever they had at the rental-car counter when Pope Francis and his entourage touched down in South America. But it sure looks awesome.
