Throughout the investigation into the disappearance of Malaysia Airlines Flight 370, many have mentioned how the story sounds like something you'd see in a movie. It turns out a production company in Australia was planning film that contained some plot similarities, but has now shelved their plan.
According to this post by The Guardian, there was a film in the works called "Deep Water," — a shark attack film based on the struggles of plane crash survivors whose flight went down in the remote ocean on its way to China. ArcLight films Managing Director Gary Hamilton said, "We thought it wasn't the right time to make a film about a plane crash right now. We have decided it is best to pull back on production of the film for a few months."

"Deep Water" is intended as a sequel to "Bait 3D" which did well in China, where two thirds of the Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 passengers were from.
