Pixar's Cars Was Almost Really, Really Weird

Illustration for article titled Pixars iCars/i Was Almost Really, Really Weird

Well, weirder than it was already. Early in the development of the movie, Pixar had the idea for a world entirely inhabited by cars. Which is neat! Until you want the anthropomorphized vehicles to interact with the world around them, at which point they don’t actually have hands.

So how the hell were they supposed to pick stuff up? With a weird, noodly antenna?

Or something else?

People who have watched the movie a bunch may already know how Pixar worked around the problem. People who don’t know yet, should watch this, from Pixar’s Studio Stories.
