Like ExpressJets pilot Michael Roberts, the world's largest union of airline pilots is urging its members to boycott body imaging machines rolling out in airports across the globe. Instead, they want pilots to go for the aggressive genital pat-down. Seriously.
The president of the Allied Pilots Association, which represents 11,500 pilots, many of whom work for American Airlines, has urged members of the union to revolt against the devices.
But, unlike the fully commendable anti-tyranny concerns raised by pilot Michael Roberts last month, the APA is sorta wussing out and making this about "dangers of excessive exposure to harmful levels of radiation during the screening process." Really, guys? Come on — the tyranny route is totally more persuasive.
The union is urging pilots to refrain from being put through the scanners and if necessary opt for a pat down by TSA officials instead. What? So that TSA officials can aggressively pat down our genitals? No thanks!
