We've always thought the Peugeot 907's design would have better served as a kind of brooch the wife of a Las Vegas high roller might wear. All the raw materials of a sexy coupe seem to be there, but a lack of editing rendered it a Beaux Artes mess of stylized sheetmetal. Exactly what were the designers in La Garenne smoking, we thought, and how could we get our hands on some of it?
When we saw the 407 coupe in Geneva it was clear the joke is on us. The 907 was as more a "brand DNA" concept than an aspirational supercar. (When a 407 looks in the mirror, it's the 907's face it sees.) Maybe the 907 isn't radical enough to appear purely conceptual, but it still hints at something cool and producable, which makes all of its gauche finery repellant.
Complicating matters is a review from EVO, that pegs the 907 as a workable supercar, not a mere trailer queen for corporate designers to mimic in another car's fender or quarter panel here and there. If the 907 truly is built to stand on its own, maybe it will grow on us like one of those blurry paintings from the late 1800s.
