This week at TreeHugger: The Department of Energy crunches the numbers and estimates the US power grid can carry 180 million electric vehicles, cutting CO2 emissions all the way to the plug. For those ready to dive in to a real live electric vehicle, EV Finder lists hundreds of within-reach electric cars and trucks (though probably not the kind to perk up the law's radar much). Battery maker Lithium Technology Corp. makes a plug-in hybrid from a Smart ForFour and demonstrates 84 mpg. The AltCar Expo in Santa Monica, CA opens soon and with it will be unveiled another peppy EV, the Electrum Spyder. And in Japan, home of the Kyoto Protocol, fuel economy standards will now be raised 20% by 2015.
