Those high-minded conceptualists in the Vehicle Design program at the Royal College of Art took a break from sketching dashboard binnacles to produce a string of artworks using only BMW parts for inspiration. From 14 entries, submitted as designs, a panel of judges selected five, which were subsequently realized with help from RCA's Sculpture school. One, Dynamism of a Wishbone uses suspension components to comprise a wall hanging, while another, dubbed The Screw is, quite literally, a screw mounted in a transparent plinth. (Sadly, no one rendered the iDrive knob as a beach hat.) The five winning artworks were exhibited at the College and will make rounds at selected BMW dealerships in the UK this year.
