A truly one of a kind 1929 Cord L-29 Coupe sold at RM's Amelia Island auction last weekend for an impressive $2.42 million. This one of a kind rebodied Cord was constructed by the Hayes Body Corporation for Count Alexis de Sakhnoffsky and is well known by antique car aficionados for its striking design.
Last time this elegant coupe crossed the auction block was in 2008 at which time it sold for $1.078 million. RM's pre-auction estimate on this custom Cord was $1.25-$1.5 million but apparently two people wanted the car badly enough to drive the price up to nearly twice that.
Taking into account the fact many vintage car connoisseurs rank this L-29 Hayes Coupe as one of the greatest cars ever built combined with its stunning appearance we actually aren't completely surprised with this magnificent car's staggering price tag.
