You know, we like Senator Barack Obama, generally. But his latest proposal to American automakers has us a little cheesed. Certainly, staggering healthcare obligations are one of the reasons American car companies are lagging in profits, but the reason is that healthcare's gotten so stupid-expensive, it's a hard thing for people like us to even consider having. Instead of offering a panacea to big business, Mr. Obama, why don't you do something to alleviate the rest of the citizenry's HMO woes? What's good for GM may be good for America, but what's good for America is better for America. Our quick proposal to accomplish the same objective? Tax the hell out of fuel and use it to defray personal healthcare costs for all Americans. Efficiency would have to go up, and we'd all reap the benefits.
