Not Quite the Key to the City

A Toronto-area contractor discovered that the key to his GM van opens other vehicles. Darrell Greer explains, "I sent out a helper and my key opened up somebody else's van. He realized when he opened up the doors it was carpenters' tools not carpet layers." Incensed that some other GM van driver could just open his vehicle up and walk off with thousands of dollars in tools, he called General Motors to complain. Their response? Not enough complaints to make it worth their while. Of course, door locks don't generally deter determined thieves anyway, and we doubt that there's some goober walking around trying his key in every van he sees. Although maybe there will be, now.
