For 500 engineers at the General it's certainly a black day. The General announced layoffs today at 30 sites, with the biggest hit taken by the Technical Center in Warren, MI. Word on the street (and in the article over at the Freep) is that dismissed workers will be able to receive a month of pay for every year they worked for the General, with a maximum of 15 months pay. During the same period they'll also be able to receive some benefits as well as many of the managers were allowed to keep their company car for 30 days. Wasn't that nice of the General? We think maybe it was because they didn't wanna spring for the cab ride home.
