An internal debate raging inside Nissan Motor, on whether to launch its new Skyline GT-R sports car as a Nissan product or as an Infiniti, appears to be favoring the Nissan badge, according to Automotive News. Critics of the move cite the need for a high-performance car within the Infiniti stable, while those in favor of Nissan branding likely support keeping intact its brand ties with the Nissan Skyline GT-R, sold primarily in Japan since the early 1990s, which carries as much clout among the tuner crowd as Ferrari does among supercar fans. Either way, word is the new Skyline will compete directly with the Chevrolet Corvette and Dodge Viper, with horsepower in the 400 range likely.
