Although Ford's poor-selling Thunderbird roadster was a flop down memory lane, the company's bigger, riskier bet on retro-chic styling looks like a win. Ford executives announced today the company will increase production of the new Mustang by 70 percent to meet high demand — to 192,000 cars in 2005, from 112,000 in 2004. Sales of the Mustang convertible, introduced earlier this year, reportedly helped boost retail sales, which are up 45 percent over last year.
