New Cherokee-Class Sub Spied in Shallow-Water, Cold Weather Testing

We may earn a commission from links on this page.

While submariners have been traversing the depths under the polar ice cap for decades, apparently there's an experimental program to accomplish the now-mundane feat in a Jeep Cherokee. Starting off with a pond we'd roughly estimate to be about a fathom in depth, a crew of off-roaders launched an unmanned expedition to assess how well the boxy ute would fare in the deep. We suspect the cable attached to the amphibious submersible had something to do with its not-ready-for-prime time passive sonar system, but that's really just a wild-ass guess on our part.
