Never before had there been a diesel-powered racer competing in at 24 Hours of Le Mans until Audi's R10 qualified this year. Next year, there may be two dieselfied contenders. Peugeot intends to make good on a pledge it reportedly made last year (apparently in secret, or during a heavy news day) that it would win LeMans with an HDi diesel engine. The company plans to show off its new, 700hp oil-burning V12 as a scale model at this year's Paris Motor Show, with a first pass by test driver ric H lary scheduled for December 2006. It may be even more torquey than Audi's (885 ft.-lbs vs. 811). Hope it doesn't rain.
