Be that as it may, the auto leaders persevered and engaged today in a bit of legislative hand-holding. They met with such influentials as Senator Harry Reid, the minority leader; Sen. Carl Levin (MI-D), and either House Speaker Denny Hastert or his spokesperson — we're not really sure. Either way, they got a whole load of...well, nothing done — although there was much chest-beating about "positive and constructive dialogue" on "aggresively leveling the playing field" for US automakers. Right, because US automakers can totally compete with a workforce willing to work for a Sally Struthers-like dollar-a-day.
