A Mountain Lion was killed last night around 1am after it was hit by a Hyundai Tucson. The SUV struck the 140lb cat on the Wilbur Cross Parkway, just 70 miles from New York City.
The incident is particularly bizarre because mountain lions are believed to be extinct in that part of the country. Several sightings of the big cat had been reported earlier in the week in a nearby town. Authorities had previously speculated the mountain lion had escaped or been released by a local handler.
Luckily the driver of the Tucson was not injured in what is very possibly the first case of accidental Hyundai on mountain lion violence New England has ever seen.
