Today's news that BMW and Mercedes may find common ground on a minicar project gains new perspective via Germany's AutoBild. The mag reports the rivals are expected to announce plans to build the next A-Class (or A-Class replacement) on the Mini Cooper platform. The boys at Motoring File say the Mini's profitability for BMW may depend on wringing out every bit of capacity, making the platform prime for an outsourcing job. No word on the story's probability level, but the accountants may have to sell the Mercedes product planners on the idea. [Thanks to Seth for the tip.]
