Truth be told, I have absolutely no idea how these trumpet air intakes work or why classic 1950s and 1960s sports racing cars have them. I do know that they look frikkin' righteous.
The above picture shows a 1952 Kurtis Kraft 500A, an Indy 500 racer with an experimental Chrysler hemi. Do I care how it performed at the race? No. Do I care that it probably sounds like Godzilla ripping King Kong in half? Yes.
I know for a fact that you fartsniffers out there can find even cooler pictures of velocity trumpets on Ferrari TRs and McLaren Can Am cars, so get to it! Post the best ones you have in Kinja below.
