Mitsubishi brought this angular plug-in hybrid crossover XR-PHEV to the LA Auto Show to showcase the brand's new design direction. But it's also here to make a statement: "Mitsubishi is here to stay in the United States."
MMNA Executive Vice President Don Swearingen confirmed that the lines of this concept are a preview of Mitsubishi's American lineup, and that the company is committed to the American market. "As we regrow the brand we will introduce new models while updating existing ones, [we will create] a new look and a new value proposition for the brand," stated Swearingen.
With exterior anger echoing the Lexus NX and starship interior loaded with LCD screens, the XR-PHEV concept certainly looks the part of the futurist.
Mitsubishi has made plenty of good vehicles over the years, but have had a lot of trouble making serious sales in America recently. Will aggressive styling and a Star Trek style human-machine interface be enough to really reboot the brand?
