Mercedes-Benz is putting significant resources behind a prospective competitor to the BMW X3 in the North American market. The small Merc SUV, possibly called the MLK or MLX, will round out the company's sport utility offerings, joining the M-Class, R-Class and new G-Class — all of which will be built at the company's assembly plant in Vance, Alabama. This place is getting lousy with small SUVs: the X3, the MLX, a new Freelander a new VW, Suzuki, Hyundai — anyone else want to throw down? C'mon, punks, we dare ya. It's going to be a long five years.
