Not only will you be able to fulfill your retro-throwback 300SL dreams with the upcoming Mercedes SLS AMG Gullwing, but you may also get a Roadster version, obviously sans-Gullwing. Oh, how Bruce!
According to L'Automobile Magazine, Mercedes is not only hard at work putting the final touches on the 2010 SLS AMG Gullwing, but they're also getting ready for a historical throwback to the beautiful 300SL Roadster. Rumored to launch a year later as a 2011 model, the SLS AMG Roadster will likely be mechanically identical to its winged-door brother, receiving the same AMG-built 6.2-liter V8, though its 563 horses and 479 lb-ft of torque will be appreciated to the fullest extent in this new droptop form. Visual differences will most obviously stem from a new rear deck with integrated rollover hoops, new wheels and, in our humble opinion, a much sexier and proportionately correct profile view.
We're not quite sure when we'll first see the upcoming roadster, but seeing as we haven't really seen the SLS Gullwing yet, it could be some time. [via L'Automobile Magazine]
