Is there anything nicer than a sweet older gentleman who still has his Porsche 914-6 after 45 years? Well, if that man is Pikes Peak legend, filmmaker and Porsche nut Jeff Zwart, you can bet there’s some burnouts and donuts involved—and we’re not talking about a run out to Krispy Kreme, either.
It’s a car Zwart’s had since his dad forced him to invest half his high-school earnings in the stock market. Those stocks didn’t make enough to get Zwart a 911 when he was finally allowed to spend the cash after high school, but it could get him a 914-6.
The 914-6 doesn’t share engines with my humble Volkswagen 411 like a regular 914. These came with a real, honest-to-goodness Porsche flat six. He’s souped it up over the years, rallied it and hillclimbed it.
There’s a lesson here: don’t let your hard work go to waste. Drive the tires off it, and work harder to buy more tires. Duh.
