It’s still kind of hard to believe the 600-horsepower Subaru WRX STI tinkered on by Prodrive is built on the bones of a regular-ass WRX STI that I could theoretically buy right now. Earlier this month, it set a sub-seven minute lap time at the Nürburgring, making it the fastest sedan there ever. And now we have the onboard footage.
The STI’s Nürburging time was 6:57:578. That’s only half a second behind a Porsche 918 Spyder and faster than a Lamborghini Aventador LP 750-4 SV. Yes, the Subaru is a race car and the other two are normal cars (lol) but still! That’s damn impressive. Especially since it’s way down on power.
I felt a twinge of jealousy as I watched Aston Martin factory driver Richie Stanaway wrestling the Subaru through the corners. And by twinge I mean a full on flood. I wish I could drive like that. That’d be nice. It would definitely make me more interesting during dinner parties.
