The AMC Eagle really was ahead of its time, given how many four-wheel-drive non-trucks we see on the road today. Unfortunately, the Eagle was pretty much AMC's last gasp, and it didn't exactly fly off the showroom floors. Here's a pair of early-80s ads for the Eagle wagon and hatchback that should trigger all sorts of what-might-have-been thoughts.
We drove AMC Concords in Drivers' Ed in our high school, I thought they were nice cars in spite of the extra brake pedal. Then I rode in an Eagle wagon. It drove like the exact same car, but had an extra eight inches of height. What a difference.
