Illustration for article titled London Underground Trains Displayed In Real-Time

Programmer Matthew Somerville has created a clever little map displaying the approximate whereabouts of every train in the London Underground in real time.

Somerville used a Google Earth map background with a bit of programming overlaying each Underground line and software which pulls down continuously updated departure and arrival times from the Underground Authority. The software does a little mathmagical manipulation and estimates where each train is between departure and arrival and displays the location of each train as a red pointer in between each yellow station pointer. In the spirit of openness he's even left the source code available for other geeks who want to improve on his idea. According to young Matthew's Twitter feed, he was just interviewed on the BBC Lincolnshire about his creation, which will no doubt have buskers setting up in its hallways playing Beetles covers for tourists in no time.
