Lexus officials announced today that the company is abandoning its "three shifters" strategy, and returning to a single gearshift, placed in the center console of their vehicles. According to executives, the strategy, which many buyers considered to be "assinine" and "without deference to reason," was designed to "add additonal value" to Lexus vehicles, making them "more competitive with competitors' competing offerings." The move comes amid similar strategic realignments at BMW, which recently abandoned its "rear-seat steering" strategy, and Mercedes, which will only offer its "six gloveboxes" option through this year.
