Jalopnik sleuths, we call upon you and your inherent car knowledge. Update: Damn! You guys are good!

A deputy emailed us earlier today with two curious photographs of what appear to be fragments of tail light lenses. He is investigating a hit-and-run crash and believes that the suspect car left behind these two fragments.

Since then, he’s been able to identify the make and model of the suspect car, but we thought you guys might like a take a crack at determining what it is. The imprinted number seems to be 400111 003A. Does that mean anything to you? Where do you think it came from?

Update 5:20 p.m.: Good Lord you guys are fast. We published this story at 5:03 p.m. and Billy D had the answer six minutes later. The pieces were from a 2006 Chevrolet Impala.

Color me impressed, because when I saw these fragments I had no clue. Nice work everyone!

Not the Impala in question.
