Before the Fiero, designers wanting to craft lines around a car with the engine in the back had to turn to the Volkswagen Beetle. We showed you the Porsche that wanted to be the Ferrari, now we have the VW that want's to be a Porsche. The Laser 917 is a bold effort to mimic the beloved Porsche 917. The bold move doesn't quite pay off as the long body on the short VW results in a car with headlights that are bigger than the wheels and a view that leaves about four inches between the steering wheel and the roof. For admirers like Tonyola, it's as close to a street legal 917 as your likely to find or be able to afford.
