A couple who tried to steal fuel from a bunch of idle construction equipment got the moving truck they'd rented stuck in the mud and were subsequently caught by the police. Justice served.

Apprehended near Modesto, Calif., Erik and Shannon Miller told police that they were on their way to San Francisco from Fresno when they realized they were running low on money. So they decided to plunder a construction site.

Their story regarding their surprise over running out of money didn't hold water, but it did hold fuel. The cops found a 100-gallon tank and siphon setup in the back of the truck, and threw both Millers in jail.

Quite sad, really. With an optimistic $4 a gallon and a 100 gallon tank most they could steal was a measly $400. Why would you go through that much trouble with that much risk for such a tiny amount of potential profit. You'll have to be completely irrational or terribly desperate to do such a thing. And that's ignoring the obvious moral problems with this behavior.
