One of Her Majesty's Constabulary (i.e., a police officer) who was caught driving 159mph near Birmingham, UK was cleared of speeding yesterday. The officer, who told a judge he was "familiarizing himself" with an unmarked patrol car, was hammering a Vauxhall Vectra 3.2 liter GSI when he was spotted by a fellow officer's on-board camera. Safety advocates criticized the acquittal as irresponsible, but advocates like Safe Speed say it's an official admission that driving fast need not be unsafe.
