Although Jaguar's the last remaining luxury car brand to launch a diesel-powered flagship in Europe, according to AutoExpress, the new XJ TDVi rivals the best of the bunch, the Mercedes S320 CDI. Although it's the same 2.7-liter twin-turbo mill as in the smaller S-Type diesel, the TDVi's 206bhp is a respectable performer in the big X, if not overly quick off the line. Still, its 35mpg means an extra round or two of 15-year-old Speyside Malt for the boys at the club.
