Volvo is acknowledging that a vital engine part on around 356,000 of its cars has a far shorter lifespan than it had projected. Now, the Ford division is extending warranty coverage (to 200,000 miles or 10 years) and reimbursing customers who've already had their faulty, stall-inducing ETM throttles replaced, under an agreement with California regulators. Don't call it a recall; the company isn't warning customers to have it replaced, considering a dashboard light will come on if the part fails. The Detroit News has more on the legal battle that led to the deal. Cars covered include 1999-2002 C70 coupes and convertibles; 1999-2000 S70, V70 and V70SX models; 2000-2001 V70, V70XC and S60 turbos; 1999-2001 S80s; and 2000-2002 V70 and naturally aspirated S60s.
