Marfa, Texas is very much in the middle of nowhere, about an hour from the Mexican border in far West Texas. But if you go even further into the middle of nowhere, out past Valentine, you get to see Prada Marfa.
It’s not a real Prada store, just a lonely art installation along a desert highway made to look like one. It has handbags and purses inside, even though you can’t get in. I’ve been out there many times over the years. Once I took a pre-refresh Dodge Charger R/T Daytona out that way. Great road trip car.
Prada Marfa is a most jarring sight for the uninitiated, but what’s the weirdest thing you’ve seen in the middle of nowhere? It could be a roadside attraction, a business, a random act of strangeness that’s never left your mind, whatever you want. Magical things happen in remote places if you know where to look.
