Is This Salvaged S2000 Worth The Gamble?

The S2000 comes to us from a time when Honda was on top of their game. With an original specific output of 120 hp/liter and a near 9,000 RPM redline, some described this roadster as "a motorcycle with doors." This 2004 with only 25k miles can be yours for $18k.

Many of us fantasize about a weekend car for cruising, canyon carving, or attacking our local race track. A car that throws practicality aside for pure driving enjoyment. Therefore, Car Buying has scoured the internet to find a ride for your perfect Sunday Drive!

The 2004 S2000 has the larger 2.2L 4cyl that gave you a tad more torque than the old 2.0 motor. Given the desirability of these cars, that price and miles immediately raises a red-flag. So what's the catch? This car has a salvage title. While my gut reaction whenever I see "salvage" is to run away, I have hope for this yellow screamer.

According to the listing here is the story behind the damage and repair-

The original owner had scrapped the whole driver side against another car, and the car was sold through insurance auction and branded salvage/rebuild title.

We have purchased this s2k and had our in house repair facility restore the car back to its original condition. Pictures are available of what damage the car had before we repaired it.

The Damage was strictly cosmetic in nature resulting in a replacement of driver side Fender, Door, quarter panel skin, rear bumper cover all other body panels have original vin numbers. No deployed airbags, no structural damages. Each car we repair is inspected on our frame laser rack and then a full 4 wheel alignment is done in house. Prep materials we use are all PPG primer and PPG paint. The car looks fabulous and drives great.

We tend to give Honda a hard time here at Jalopnik and it's not because we don't like the brand, it's because we know what they are capable of yet we are let down. With the exception of the legendary NSX, the S2000 is arguably the brand's greatest attainable sports car. Unmolested, low mileage S2Ks are not easy to come by, and while this example has a tragic past, it appears to have been given a new life.
